ICICI Bank has launched a debit card facility for the customers availing the Loan Against
Securities (LAS) from the Bank.
● The debit card is available on the Visa platform.
● With this launch, ICICI Bank has become the first bank in India to launch such a facility.
Loans Against Securities
• Loans Against Securities is available in the form of an overdraft facility which is
pledged against financial securities like shares, units and bonds.
• Loan Against Shares/Bonds/Mutual Funds is basically a loan wherein you pledge the
securities you have invested in as collateral against the loan amount.
● The Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC)
has presented the lifetime achievement award to
business icon Ratan Tata.
● The association presented the award to Tata for his
pioneering role in the Business Relations of IndiaUSA and for his lifetime achievement in Global
Leadership.
● In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the ‘Back to
Village’ programme has emerged as a ray of hope for rural
people turning their dreams into reality.
● Under the programme, Visiting Officers are reaching the
unreachable and tough terrains of the Union Territory with
a sole motive of empowering the underprivileged segments
of the society.
‘Back to the village’
● Under the program, the entire administrative apparatus of the state government is going to visit
all the 4483 Panchayat halqas to get the grassroots level feedback from general public.
● The government has deployed one gazetted officer as nodal officer in each panchayat halqa,
who will interact with panchayat members, general public to get the general feedback.
● The program is primarily aimed at directing development efforts in rural areas through
community participation and to create in the rural masses an earnest desire for decent standard
of living.
● The ambitious programme has four main goals:
○ energising panchayats.
○ collecting feedback on delivery of government schemes and programmes.
○ capturing specific economic potential.
○ undertaking assessment of needs of villages.

Union Minister of Environment, Forest and
Climate Change Prakash Javadekar gave away the
CZA-Prani Mitra awards.
● The award has been instituted by Central Zoo
Authority (CZA) this year to encourage zoo
officers and staff engaged in captive animal
management.
● Quad Countries’ Foreign Minister meet held in Tokyo, Japan. ● All four Quad countries the United States, Japan, India and Australia to hold bilateral discussions over “Free and Open IndoPacific” (FOIP) initiative amid the coronavirus pandemic.
● The Quad FM meeting was represented by External Affairs
Minister of India S Jaishankar, US Secretary of State Mike
Pompeo, Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne, and
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.
Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD)
Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) is the informal strategic dialogue
between India, USA, Japan and Australia with a shared objective to
ensure and support a “free, open and prosperous” Indo-Pacific region.
● The idea of Quad was first mooted by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo
Abe in 2007.
● However, the idea couldn’t move ahead with Australia pulling out of it,
apparently due to Chinese pressure.
● In November 2017, India, the US, Australia and Japan gave shape to the
long-pending “Quad” Coalition to develop a new strategy to keep the
critical sea routes in the Indo-Pacific free of any influence (especially
China).

● The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the
appointment of M A Ganapathy to the post of Director General,
Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), for a tenure up to his
superannuation on February 29, 2024 or until further orders.
● He is a 1986 batch IPS officer of Uttarakhand cadre.
Bureau of Civil Aviation Security
● The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security was initially set up as a
Cell in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in 1978
on the recommendation of the Pande Committee constituted
in the wake of the hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight in
1976.
● The BCAS was reorganized into an independent department in
1987 under the Ministry of Civil Aviation as a sequel to the
Kanishka Tragedy in June
● BCAS is the regulatory authority for civil aviation security in
India.
● The main responsibility of BCAS are lay down standards and
measures in respect of security of civil flights at International
and domestic airports in India.
● The government has appointed Dinesh Kumar
Khara as chairman of State Bank of India (SBI), the
country’s largest lender, for three years.
● Khara, one of the bank’s four managing directors,
replaces Rajnish Kumar, who is stepping down
after being at the helm for three years.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics.
● One half of the award has been given to Roger Penrose for black hole discovery; and the other half
jointly to Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez.
● UK’s Roger Penrose has been awarded “for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust
prediction of the general theory of relativity”
● America’s Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez have jointly won “for the discovery of a supermassive
compact object at the centre of our galaxy.
Black Hole
● The term ‘black hole’ was coined in the mid-1960s by American Physicist John Archibald Wheeler.
● Black hole refers to a point in space where matter is so compressed as to create a gravity field from which
even light cannot escape.
● Black-holes were theorized by Albert Einstein in 1915.
● On the occasion of the 151st Birth Anniversary of
Mahatma Gandhi, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi,
Manish Sisodia has launched the coffee-table book titled
“Babu – The Unforgettable” over the virtual event.
● This virtual event was organised by the Delhi Archives &
Department of Art, Culture and Language, Government of
Delhi.
● The department also organised a webinar on “Footprints of
Gandhi Ji in Delhi”.

● The stories are interspersed with funny songs and poems
making the book a read-aloud as well as a bedtime
companion.
