China has cited COVID-19 regulations for denying departure to a
stranded Indian merchant ship loaded with Australian coal.
● The ship named Jag Anand been awaiting anchorage at the Chinese
port Jingtang near Tangshan in China’s Hebei province since June this
year.
● 23 crew members are stuck on the ship and most of them have
exceeded their limit of 11 months to stay on board and are eligible
for repatriation.

American television editor, writer and producer Ken
Spears, who co-created the beloved animated series
“Scooby-Doo” passed away.
● He was also the co-founder of television animation
production company, Ruby-Spears Productions, along
with the late Joe Ruby.

Sudan’s transitional government signed a peace
deal called the ‘Juba Peace Agreement’ with several
rebel groups in Juba, almost a year after the peace
talks began.
● Last month, Sudan’s transitional government inked
the peace agreement with several militant groups
with an aim to end years of civil war that killed
hundreds of thousands of people in the country.

Indication(GI) tag.
● However, documents available on the website of
Ministry of Commerce & Industry reveal that the
development is not new, and this happened way
back in 2015.

Geographical Indication (GI) tag
● A Geographical Indication is used on products that have a
specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a
reputation that are due to that origin.
● Such a name conveys an assurance of quality and
distinctiveness which is essentially attributable to its origin
in that defined geographical locality.
● This tag is valid for a period of 10 years following which it
can be renewed.
● The first product to get a GI tag in India was the
Darjeeling tea in 2004.

General Facts about Assam
● It is the first state in country were crude oil was struck in 1889 at Digboi.
● Dispur is also famous for Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC). GTAC was established in
1970 and is one of the busiest tea trading centers of world.

● Kamakhya temple is located on Nilachal hill of Guwahati. It is an ancient and very famous
hindu temple devoted to goddess Kamakhya (one of the incarnation of goddess Durga).

● The state is also known for one of its kind Assamese golden silk called muga which is
produced only in Assam.

Bill which provides for setting up of Skill University at Mangaldoi at the cost of
900 crore rupees.
● Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of IndoIsraeli Centre of Excellence for Vegetables Protected Cultivation near
Guwahati.

Asteroid Apophis, which was expected to pass extremely close to
Earth, may now hit the blue planet in 2068 due to a
phenomenon called Yarkovsky effect.
● This effect has eventually accelerated the asteroid’s flow and
also changed its path.

● Discovered in 2004, Asteroid Apophis, named after the Greek God of
Chaos, is a 1,120-foot-wide (340-meter-wide) asteroid.
● That’s about the size of three-and-a-half football fields, the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration said.
● According to a recent report, the sun can heat an asteroid in a nonuniform way, causing the space rock to radiate heat energy
asymmetrically.
● This can cause a thrust or a tiny push in a certain direction,
sometimes changing the path of the asteroid. This effect is called the
Yarkovsky acceleration.

Nepal President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has released a special anthology on Mahatma Gandhi- ‘My
understanding about Gandhi’.
● The book has been brought out by the Embassy of India along with the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation

A model of Anti-Satellite Missile installed inside the DRDO Bhawan premises was unveiled by
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
● ‘Mission Shakti’ was the country’s first ever Anti-Satellite (A-SAT) Missile Test successfully conducted
on 27th March 2019 from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha, where a fast-moving Indian orbiting
target satellite in Low Earth Orbit was neutralised with pinpoint accuracy.
● This was a highly complex mission, conducted at extremely high speed with remarkable precision.
● The successful conduct of Mission Shakti made India the fourth nation in the world with the capability
to defend its assets in outer space.

The 13th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference was
organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
● It was inaugurated by Hardeep S. Puri, Minister of State (IC)
Housing and Urban Affairs.
● The theme of the conference is “Emerging Trends in Urban
Mobility”.

Indian Oil Corp (IOC) director-pipelines Akshay Kumar Singh will be the new managing director and chief executive of
the country’s biggest gas importer, Petronet LNG Ltd.
● He will replace Prabhat Singh who completed his 5-year term.
● Petronet is a joint venture of IOC, GAIL, Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) and BPCL.
● Petronet operates liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal is at Dahej in Gujarat and Kochi in Kerala.

● Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the
final of Indian Premier League 2020.
● With this win, Mumbai added a fifth IPL title to their kitty,
more than any other team in the 13-year history of the
league.
