Recently with Mauritius an African Nation India has singed the first of Its kind Free Trade Pact
India and Mauritius recently signed Free Trade Agreement along with five key pacts. This is the first
such agreement with an African country. The agreement was signed during the visit of External Affairs
Minister S Jaishankar to the island nation.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said India is privileged to have entered the Comprehensive
Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) with Mauritius. CECPA will provide
preferential access to Mauritius for the bulk of trade and also for many “aspirational items” in future
in the Indian market of over a billion people. These include frozen fish, speciality sugar, biscuits, fresh
fruits, juices, mineral water, soaps, bags, medical and surgical equipment, and apparel. Mauritius will
get preferential access for the export of 40,000 tonnes of sugar into India at an early time frame.
India- Mauritius inked another agreement according which India will provide a Dornier aircraft and
Advanced Light Helicopter ‘Dhruv’ on lease to Mauritius on a gratis basis for two years. An agreement
for a special US$ 100 million Defence Line of Credit has was also signed.

Karnataka will host the second Khelo India University Games (KIUG) later this year, state chief
minister BS Yediyurappa and Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju announced recently.
The Games will be held in Bengaluru’s Jain University and other venues in the state, in
partnership with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Khelo India University Games (KIUG) is the largest University Games in the country and is aimed
at tapping sporting talent, who can represent India in international events.
The first edition of Khelo India University Games (KIUG) was held in Bhubaneswar in February
2020, and saw a total participation of 3182 athletes in the U-25 age group, across 158
universities and colleges from all states.
This year, Yogasana and Mallakhamb have been added to the roster, with an effort to preserve
and promote the century-old sporting disciplines of the country. With the inclusion of these
disciplines, the athlete participation figure is expected to cross 4000, this year.

The six-day Khajuraho Dance Festival -2021 began recently at the UNESCO World Heritage site

premises after 44 years following the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) permission. The ASI
has also waived the fee for conducting the festival this year.
“The dance festival was introduced 46 years ago on the premises to promote heritage and
tourism. But ASI cancelled the permission after the reports of destruction of monuments and
defacement of idols. For the past 44 years, the state government has been organising the
festival in an open garden developed near Western Group of Temples.
Khajuraho has been added to the list of 19 iconic world tourism sites and they want to make the
festival more popular and attractive for national as well as international tourists. “Hence, the
ASI granted permission to the state government.” He said the state government will ensure the
safety and security of the monuments.

benefited from the present reservation structure for OBCs.”
