World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on October 5 globally.

  • It aims to focus on appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and teaching.
  • International Teachers Day is celebrated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in partnership with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Education International.
  • The theme for World Teachers’ Day 2020 is “Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future”.

  • PM Modi pays tributes to freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma on his birth anniversary 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to revolutionary freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma on his birth anniversary.

  • The freedom fighter devoted his life towards India’s freedom and inspired many nationalists.
  • Shyamji Krishna Varma was born in 1857 and had set up a revolutionary centre in ‘India House’ at London.
  • He propagated the cause of India’s independence through his writings in a publication journal called ‘The Indian Sociologist’.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • India successfully test-fires new version of nuclear-capable Shaurya Missile

In a major success amid the ongoing border crisis with China, India successfully test-fired a new version of nuclear-capable Shaurya missile off the coast of Odisha, which can strike targets at around 800 kms.

  • The missile would be lighter and easier to operate in comparison with the existing missile.
  • In the last phase while moving close to its target, the missile moves at hypersonic speeds.

  • PM Modi inaugurates artificial intelligence ‘RAISE 2020’ Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Summit RAISE 2020 – ‘Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020.

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and NITI Aayog are organizing the Mega Virtual Summit on Artificial Intelligence till 9th of October.
  • The summit will discuss cross-sector subjects like ‘Leveraging AI for Pandemic Preparedness’, the Impetus that Innovation Places on Digitisation’, Inclusive AI and Partnerships for Successful Innovation.
  • The summit will be a global meeting of minds to exchange ideas and chart a course for using AI for social transformation, inclusion and empowerment in areas like Healthcare, Agriculture, Education and Smart Mobility, among other sectors.

 

 

‘Corona Intensive Community Survey Campaign’ underway in Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh, “Corona Intensive Community Survey Campaign” is going on.

  • Under this campaign, a door-to-door survey is being conducted to identify patients with symptoms of corona infection in rural and urban areas of the state by October 12.
  • The objective of this campaign is to identify Corona patients as soon as possible by conducting intensive community surveys in urban and rural areas.
  • Through this campaign, the state government is trying to break the chain of corona infection by isolating corona patients.

  • J&K LG Manoj Sinha dedicates Ashthal Bridge to public in Kulgam

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha during his visit to Panchayat Halqa Ashthal, Kulgam in connection with Back to Village-3 programme, dedicated Ashthal Bridge to the public.

  • The Ashthal Bridge connects village Ashthal with adjoining areas while benefiting about 10,000 souls residing in 13 habitations.
  • The Lt Governor also laid the foundation stone for a Solid Waste Management plant. It is going to benefit 239 households.
  • To maintain the high sanitation standards, at least two dustbins in every panchayat are to be installed for solid and liquid waste management.

The Chief Minister of Assam has launched a portal “Kritagyata”, an online pension submission and tracking system.

  • It has been launched to lend convenience to the pensioners to dispose off their pension related claims.
  • With the help of the portal, the retired government employees will submit the pension related papers online and will also get the opportunity to check the status of his pension.
  • The portal has been launched in line with the “Bhabhisya” portal of Government of India.

According to Forbes’ latest list, Sofia Vergara is the highest-paid female actor in the world.

  • She made $43 million in a one-year period, which is the equivalent of Rs 315 crore.
  • According to Forbes, most of Vergara’s earnings came from Modern Family and America’s Got Talent, which she padded up with endorsement deals.
  • Last year’s number one, Scarlett Johansson, had made $56 million.
  • Dwayne Johnson topped the male list, with $87.5 million. Akshay Kumar was the only Indian actor on either list.

  • Actress Mishti Mukherjee passes away

Actress Mishti Mukherjee has passed away due to renal failure.

  • Mishti made her Bollywood debut as a lead actress in Subhash Ghai’s 2014 release, “Kaanchi: The Unbreakable”.
  • She had featured in a special appearance dance number in the 2013 release “Main Krishna Hoon” before that.
  • In a short career span, Mishti was also seen in films such as “Great Grand Masti” (2016), “Begum Jaan” (2017) and Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi” (2019), besides Bengali and Telugu projects, and music videos.

Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, DoNER, Dr Jitendra Singh released a Coffee Table Book on Discovering the Heritage of Assam, with foreword by Amitabh Bachchan and published by Penguin.

  • The voluminous coffee table book with pictures and photographs presents an absorbing compilation of heritage, faith, beliefs and traditions of different ethnic tribes and subtribes living in the largest State of the North Eastern Region.
  • The book has been written by IRS officer Padampani Bora who has over the years established himself as an accomplished author, specializing in the subjects reflecting diverse nuances of the North Eastern Region of India.
